{Product Review} Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundations

tarte foundation

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had purchased the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation, and Airbrush Foundation (aka powder foundation) after hearing a few of my favorite beauty YouTube’ers rave about them. I love Tarte as a brand, and have really enjoyed many of their products over the years, so I had really high hopes for both of these products. I have been using both for awhile now, and feel confident that I can give a pretty honest and full review of each.

Before jumping into either product, let me (for the millionth time if you’ve been following my blog for the last year) tell you a little about my skin type. I have dry/combination skin, leaning more heavily towards dry. I have very thin skin which shows veins, freckles, and scarring very easily. I exfoliate my skin 3-5 times weekly using either a mask or bead/scrub exfoliant to remove dry skin, which prevents me from having too many dry patches. I use heavy moisturizers, particularly around my eye area.

With that said, lets jump into the cream foundation review first!

tarte foundation coverage

tarte6

Closer look at the photo 4/4 from above (same photo, just rotated). Creamy foundation finish.

As you can see, the cream foundation is very thick and (no surprise) creamy. I would say this is a medium-full coverage foundation, very buildable, and creates a very airbrushed effect like it claims. The foundation dries very soft, and almost powdery to the touch, and leaves a natural-matte finish. I haven’t had issues with breakouts while using this foundation, but I did use the Hourglass primer as a base before every application. I only noticed patchiness after 8+ hours of wear, if ever. The cream foundation offers SPF 15, and is oil-free. I wear color light-medium sand.

So…I like this foundation…but I don’t love it. For someone with combination/oily skin I would definitely recommend this, but for anyone with much drier skin I would stick to a more radiant foundation like the Nars Sheer Glow, or even a more natural setting foundation like MUFE HD foundation. I found that the Tarte cream foundation settled into fine lines, and emphasized blonde baby hairs on my face around my hairline. It aged my skin because of how matte it looked on my already dry skin, and I found myself adding Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector to it (before applying) to create a slight glow. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this foundation, and I think it’s a great product for some people, it’s just not for my skin type.

Let’s talk about the airbrush powder foundation…

I have used Bare Minerals powder foundations in the past and had really great results, but always felt like the powders were sitting on top of my skin, so I wanted to try the Tarte powder in comparison. In a nutshell, they are two very different products. Where they Bare Minerals provides a medium coverage, the Tarte provides a light-medium (buildable) coverage. Where B.M. has a matte finish, Tarte has a more glowing, slightly shimmery finish – not everyone’s cup of tea. Both products sit on top of my skin to a degree, but less so with the Tarte powder. I appreciate the range of colors available in the Tarte line (I wear light-medium neutral).

tarte powder finish

Here’s the finish of the powder foundation. As you can see, there is some settling into fine lines, and it emphasizes my dry skin.

Tarte Shimmer This is the best photo I could capture of the “shimmer”/glow the powder foundation has. Because I have drier skin I actually enjoy the slight glow to my foundations, but someone with oily skin or acne may not want attention drawn to those areas (which shimmer does – hence why we use matte concealer on blemishes).

Similar to the creamy foundation, the powder formula lasts all day. These two foundations are really incredible paired together when you’re looking for a full coverage, flawless, airbrushed face. I wore them together to a wedding, in 75-80 degree heat, for hours and had great results. You can see what it looked like here. I also sprayed my face with the Urban Decay Chill setting spray, as well as my husbands face because he sweats like a whore in church even when it’s only 65 out. ;-)

I hope that helped to answer some of your questions about these products. If any of you use either of these, please leave a comment below letting everyone know what YOU think of them, because they will work differently on everyones skin. Also note your skin type if you leave a review.

Happy Hump Day!

Wrap it Up!

Let me reassure you, this post is not sponsored by Trojan. It is, on the other hand, all about my new favorite fashion accessory – the hair wrap.

Camryn & I have been rocking hair wraps the last few weeks on a daily basis. They turn our not-so-fab hair into “Hey girl, heyyyy!” hair. Our sweet friend Keri, the owner of Little Big Dreamers, sent us a few new hair wraps that have quickly become our go-to wraps. She also just launched her fall line of headbands, wraps, and clothing, including a very special wrap that she named after Harper called “Harper’s Beauty”. <3 Be still my heart.

Here are a few of the wraps that I think you’ll love as much as I do:

Kicking it off with my obvious favorite, Harper’s Beauty – this gorgeous wrap would look amazing adding a punch of color to a black & white outfit.

Who’s that cute girl?! :-) Here’s my biggest lady rocking her Stud Muffin wrap, and just being straight up adorable while chugging her hot chocolate. Girls got a soft spot for a starbucks hot chocolate.

This is the “I Love Lucy” wrap, and the one you’ll catch me wearing most often. It literally looks good with every single outfit, and is long enough to be double wrapped and then knotted (because mama doesn’t always need a bow to draw attention to myself). This is the wrap I wore in this photo.

Oh sweet Teagan…look at that pout! Meet Keri’s oldest daughter, and most beautiful little model. This little lady has a creative mind like her mama, and it always shows in her outfits, which she picks out herself. I’m way too OCD to let Camryn pick an entire outfit by herself, but I always think moms who do are so damn cool. Back to the wraps – this gorgeous wrap is called the Lily Grace, and it’s next on my must-have list. I love the retro, vintage-y feel is has, and I would pair it with an A-line black dress, knee high socks, and retro school shoes…just in case you were wondering. HA! Reasons why Camryn doesn’t pick her entire outfit herself…mamas got issues.

Last but not least, I bring you “Totes Tribal”. This wrap is perfect for all of you ladies who are looking to rock the wrap without looking like a 5 year old. This wrap would look so chic with a top knot!

All of the featured wraps are just $12-14. What are you waiting for?!

While you’re visiting her shop, be sure to check out the “Cray Cray” tees (a mom staple), the headband section (you might spy a few pics of yours truly), and the “create your own” section if you’re feeling adventurous and think you can cut it as a designer yourself! If you create your own, and you don’t use the amazing black & white panda face fabric, then we can’t be friends anymore – pre-warning. ;-)

Oh, and sorry about the whole “I might have 2 posts up tomorrow” posted Thursday. If you showed up on Friday, there was nothing to greet you but the sound of crickets…OOPS! I may or may not have forgotten it was my husbands dirty 30 on Friday. I know, wife of the year. On the bright side, that just means more good posts coming your way THIS week.

Friday Lust List

Lust List Image

I’ll be linking up with Amanda of Meet @ The Barre for her Friday Favorites. Come say hi, and check out what all the other ladies are loving lately.

1.|| I found this darling little swimsuit on Albion and couldn’t resist myself; Camryn needs this suit. It’s called Who, Moi?

2.|| I have been loving salty foods this pregnancy, and spaghetti has been calling my name…only problem is that my husband really isn’t a fan of spaghetti unless it’s packed full of meat and cheese. I found this simple, one skillet spaghetti that looks right up his alley.

3.|| This viral video was made for me.

4.|| Cara Loren spilled the secrets behind her amazing locks, and this product was one of her must haves, as well as this (for day 2 hair).

5.|| I visited my sister yesterday at her work, and spied this adorable little bag (so much better in person), and was shocked when she told me it was from Aldo. It’s the perfect summer clutch or cross body bag, and the colors would go great with any outfit.

6.|| Many of you have probably seen #redballoonsforryan hashtagged on Instagram, and heard about the tragic loss of a 3.5 year old little boy last Friday. If you’d like to read the story, or show your support, I would recommend this as a very worthy cause. My heart breaks for his parents, and I don’t even like to imagine the incredible grief they must be feeling.

7.|| Lauren Conrad is known for her beautiful Instagram feed, and recently she shared her tips for creating swoon worthy pics.

8.|| Spoilers from the May Popsugar Must Have box are out, and they look pretty darn good! Do any of you subscribe also?

9.|| Can we talk about Grey’s Anatomy? :-( What is life without Christina going to be like? *sobs quietly*

10.|| I was recently sent a Nature Box to review and let me just tell you, it was good! My sister busted into the dried peach slices and blueberry granola clusters first, and we decided the peaches taste yummy but healthy, but the blueberry clusters were so yummy! My husband stole the trail mix and lemon pucker pistachios and proceeded to text me all day telling me how delicious they both were. How kind. Camryn chowed on the Popsugar mix, and her only request was that they add M&M’s next time. :-) The box contained 5 bags of assorted snacks, all of which I enjoyed (with help, of course). I highly recommend this to anyone looking to eat healthy, try new foods, and wants the convenience and affordability offered by the Nature Box.

Hope you’re all having a great Friday, and I wish you the best weekend!

XO – Samantha

*Disclosure: POPSUGAR and NatureBox provided me with a complimentary POPSUGAR Must Have Snacks by NatureBox box. The opinions I have shared about the box are my own, and POPSUGAR and NatureBox did not tell me what to say or how to say it.

Sea Me Twirl

Hi ladies & happy hump day! The weather in Austin has been getting warmer and warmer, and Camryn and I have been spending almost all our time outside this week. Yesterday we played on our upstairs balcony, shared cakepops, and splashed in her water table until we needed baths.

cake pop

sea me twirl Our sweet friends over at Taylor Joelle have their newest line “Sea Me Twirl” launching today, and I wanted to show you the darling bloomers/shorts they sent to Camryn. She wore them all day and couldn’t stop twirling around and calling them her ballerina shorts. She thoroughly enjoyed jumping in them too and watching the frilly bottoms. It’s the little things that count.

seametwirl2.jpg

I styled two outfits to show you options for these darling shorts. A simple white t-shirt with lace detail around the sleeves, a pink scarf, and frosted rose Freshly Picked Moccs for the first outfit. A black unitard from Target, black gladiators (also Target), and her feather infinity cowl from Vonbon for the second outfit.

seametwirl7 You always know as a mom that trouble is on it’s way when the shoes come off…

seametwirl9edit.jpg Jumping on the furniture…like I said, trouble. ;-)

These are the perfect “girly girl” shorts, and are especially great for girls on the move. Nothing’s worse than when Camryn’s trying to play with the boys and her panties show. Boys can’t help themselves; they’ll always shout “I can see her underwear!” for everyone to hear.

The material is a soft, thick, cotton, and the gray and white combo pairs well with tons of tops.

You can view the entire Taylor Joelle “Sea Me Twirl” collection here. The entire Sea Me Twirl collection is 30% off for one week, as well as other Taylor Joelle favorites. This sweet little mint skirt might just be my favorite.

If you haven’t already entered to win a pair of moccs, go now!

Crest 3D Whitestrips

My sweet friends over at Crest sent me some happy mail a few weeks ago, and asked me to give my honest feedback on their new 3D White Luxe Professional Effects Whitestrips. I’ve used similar products in the past, as well as professional whitening trays from my dentist, the Glo whitening kit, and in-office Zoom. I was eager to compare the results, especially against the higher priced brands.

The box contains 40 strips; 20 treatments (top & bottom). Directions recommend wearing the strips for 30 minutes a day until you reach your desired whiteness. I have very sensitive teeth, so I chose to whiten every other day instead.

I started by flossing and then brushing my teeth using the 3D white toothpaste & accelerator, which I already owned. I dried my teeth with a paper towel, and applied the lower strip first. I suggest using a toothpick or your nails to press the whitestrip in between the crevices of your teeth so you don’t have white surfaces but yellow gaps in between. Apply the top strip the same way, and be sure to fold the remaining strip over the backs of your teeth. If you have sensitive teeth like me, avoid getting any of the whitestrip or gel on your gums because it’s typically the nerves in your gums that get irritated and cause that piercing feeling in your teeth.

My husband and I split the box and did 10 treatments each. I wanted a second opinion because I do have sensitive teeth and he doesn’t at all.

After about two weeks my teeth were practically glowing.

crest.jpg

Sorry for the crappy iphone pic, and cheeseball smile. I was wearing Lady Danger by MAC, with a Rimmel Stay Glossy over the top, which did make my teeth look even whiter. I was extremely impressed by these strips, to say the least.

My final thoughts…

  • Affordable (roughly $39.99 per box)
  • Effective – Half a box whitened my teeth to my desired color.
  • Ease of Use – VERY easy to use. You only wear them for 30 min and they do not budge. I was actually worried the first time I tried taking them off because they literally stick like glue. I could have a full convo with my husband while wearing them, no problem.
  • Little sensitivity for me, none for my husband.

In comparison to the other whitening treatments I’ve had/used, I would go back to these above all the rest. Zoom is very expensive, and requires a significant amount of time at the dental office, in addition to wearing take home trays for weeks after. Zoom also caused a horrifying pain in my teeth; I would avoid Zoom for that reason alone. Glo is as effective (or more effective), but inconvenient. The tray has to be taken out every 8 minutes, rinse your teeth and re-apply new whitening gel (repeat 4 times…yes, FOUR!) The mouthpiece also hurts my jaw, and it’s significantly more expensive. Similar whitestrips lack in sticking power, and end up sliding around my mouth, and foaming…which is gross, and makes me dread wearing them.

So there you have it. I’m a Crest 3D whitestrips kinda gal…except right now…Doc says no whitening because baby doesn’t like to eat bleach for breakfast. ;-)

What whitening products do you use? Have you tried the new Crest strips?

Hope you all have a great hump day!

*This product was gifted to me to review. My opinions, as always, are my own. If the product was crap, I’d tell you.*

My Morning Skincare Routine

I’ve had lots of requests to share my morning & evening skincare routines with all of you, especially after listing a few of the products that I use regularly. Many of you were surprised by the number of products I listed, and asked to know in what order I used them all. To clear up any misconceptions, I have an arsenal of products that I use, but not everyday. I interchange my skincare products depending on what my skin needs (for example: moisture, blemishes dullness, puffy eyes, exfoliation, etc). I am sharing the products that make it into my morning routine most frequently. If you still have any questions, just leave me a comment below! skincare

1.|| I start my morning routine by wetting a washcloth under hot water, and then placing it (wrung out) over my face. This helps wake me up, increases bloodflow to my skin, and “opens my pores”. I use that term lightly because your pores are not doors that open and close, despite what every pore refining skin treatment on the market wants you to believe. The heat from the washcloth does help unclog and loosen any dirt/bacteria that is clogging my pores, which makes cleansing my face more effective. The pores on your face will appear larger if they are clogged, so if you can visibly see blackheads, clear the little bastards out!

2.| After I’ve steamed my face, I begin washing using either my Clinique Take the Day Off, or my Avalon Organics Vitamin C cleansing milk. I prefer balms and cleansing milks because they are hydrating, and don’t strip my skin of moisture. I also use my Clinique cleansing balm every evening to remove my makeup (even eyes) and as my first cleanse (I double cleanse in the evenings…more on that soon.) I’ll use the Avalon Organics cleanser when my skin is looking dull, or when I’m having any acne issues. The vitamin C helps brighten my complexion and fights acne.

3.||Twice a week I follow-up my cleansing with the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Paste to exfoliate any dead skin away, which keeps my face smooth and clear of any rough patches. I prefer to exfoliate in the AM because it allows my makeup to apply more smoothly, and prevents my foundation from clinging to any dry patches of skin.

4.|| I often use a cotton pad and my Bioderma Micellar Water to remove any remaining mascara smudges, and as a final cleanse before applying moisturizer. My Bioderma also comes in handy when drawing a cat-eye with liquid liner, and I need to clean up any mistakes and sharpen the line. I use a cotton pad soaked in Bioderma, a clean makeup brush (flat brush), and simply wipe the brush on the pad and then wipe away any eyeliner that you don’t want. You could also use a q-tip, but I find a small makeup brush is more precise.

5.|| I use Origins GinZing eye cream, and I love it! This cream is slightly peachy and reflects light which helps brighten and covers my dark circles. This is the eye cream for tired moms. :-)

6.|| I have combination skin, but during the winter months I tend to be more dry than oily. I use the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre to hydrate and plump my skin. I purchased this in Paris after hearing review after review from beauty bloggers that I follow. They were right, this stuff is amazing, and so well priced. It’s rich and creamy, and leaves my skin feeling hydrated all day. I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone with very oily skin. When my skin is looking grey and dull I’ll add Cosmedix Pure C to my moisturizer to brighten and even out skin tone.

7.|| I use Aquaphor on everything. My hands, cuticles, feet, and even my daughters bum when she would get diaper rashes. It’s one of the products that I couldn’t live without. I apply this to my lips every single day; after I brush my teeth in the morning, and before I go to bed at night.

Many of these products were featured in my 2013 Favorites of the Year, if you want to read more about them.

I’ll post my evening skincare routine for you all soon.

XO – Samantha

My Daily Makeup Routine

I had a few requests lately for my daily skincare and makeup routines, so I put together my everyday/basic makeup must-haves. I will go through my morning and evening skincare routines with you soon. daily makeup routine 1.|| Following my skincare routine, I begin my makeup with foundation. I rarely use primer unless I really need my makeup to last a long time, or I’m doing a heavy makeup look and want a perfected complexion. I am currently using Guerlain Lingerie De Peau in 02 Beige Clair.

2.|| I have dark circles as well as visible veins under my eyes, so I prefer a brightening and hydrating concealer for my eye area. I use Loreal’s Magic Lumi in Light. If I’m looking for a more full coverage concealer, I turn to Bobbi Brown’s Color Corrector in bisque.

3.|| I conceal all other blemishes with a matte concealer. Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage concealer is perfect for mixing and matching my skin tone year round. It offers very full coverage.

4.|| I set my concealed areas (under eyes, blemishes) with Make Up For Ever HD Powder. I have dry to combination skin, so I rarely powder my entire face, only where I need it. This powder is made of natural silica, which helps fill in fine lines, and smooths/blurs imperfections.

5.|| I have a round face, so I always contour using my Benefit Hoola Bronzer. I run it under my cheek bones, on my temples and hairline, and under my chin.

6.|| My favorite blush is the Chanel Rose Initial. It offers the perfect flush, but never looks over the top. Just a little on the apples of my cheeks.

7.|| I don’t always apply eyeshadow, especially if I’m just running errands with Camryn, or playing at the park. If/when I do wear eyeshadow, I grab my Urban Decay palettes most often.

8.|| I line my upper lid using Stila’s Stay All Day waterproof liner. I tend to have oily lids, and this eyeliner doesn’t budge. I like to have a cat-eye effect with my liner, and the very thin applicator makes drawing a precise line much easier than most eyeliners I’ve tried.

9.|| Before applying any mascara, I curl my lashes really well. I have stick-straight lashes, and have to apply a waterproof formula first to hold the curl. I have been using The Falsies for as long as I can remember, and I love, love, love it! I prefer the original “black drama” formula.

10.|| If I’m looking to va-va-voom my lashes, I’ll add a coat of Chanel’s Le Volume mascara. Trust me, you only need one coat. The formula is very wet, very volumizing, and creates a dramatic, false lash look. I always get compliments when wearing this mascara.

You may have noticed that my brow routine was left out, and that was for a reason. Eyebrows are so important, and frame your eyes, and I’m always on the hunt for the best products. I’ve been sampling and testing many brow products lately, and will be reviewing my favorites for you soon.

What are your must-have daily makeup items?

Weekend + Kevin Murphy Young Again Review

Hello! Happy Monday, loves! How was your weekend? Ours was pretty relaxing, and uneventful. I had planned on starting to paint Camryn’s room yesterday, but instead I took her on a date for Froyo and on a hike down by the water.

walking

edit There will be more of these pics for you to see on Thursday, when I link up with some other awesome mamas. :-)

After having my hair colored, I bought a few products to help moisturize my newly bleached ends, and to generally make my hair feel better and be healthier. I have a LOT of hair, and it’s very fluffy/frizzy, and feels dry and tangles easily, so I always gravitate towards intense conditioners and masks. I had sampled the Kevin Murphy Young Again Immortelle infused treatment oil, and loved it, so I knew I wanted to purchase a full size as well as purchasing the Young Again Masque, a deep restorative softening conditioner.

You guys…these two products are AMAZING!! My hair feels better after having bleached it and using these two products than it did before. I try about a million and one products on a regular basis. My husband makes jokes about the number of shampoos and conditioners in our shower. “I think we might run out of shampoo this week honey, you better by 10 more to add to the 30 we already have.” It’s a problem, but it’s also why I know that these products are worth every penny. None of the other conditioners that I’ve used do what this one does. Not even my beloved Macadamia hair mask. I was so impressed after using the masque that I texted my sister, still dripping wet out of the shower, just to tell her how silky my hair felt.

The masque is applied in the shower after shampooing, and left for 5-15 minutes. After towel drying your hair, apply the Young Again oil (which has the same consistency as Frizz-Ease, or similar hair serums) before styling. You can also apply the Young Again Oil to your ends after blow drying/styling if you have dry ends like I do. I do not believe the Young Again Oil is meant as a frizz fighting serum, so if that’s your big concern, skip this. It’s made of all natural ingredients, and it’s meant to hydrate, repair, and protect your hair. It adds softness, and shine, and does help calm my frizz, but other less expensive frizz serums will be better for you.

I’m going to go buy the Shimmer Shine Repairing Shine Mist, and the Born Again Conditioning Masque next and I’ll let you all know how I get on with them. I’ve also heard great things about the Hydrate Me Rinse.

I couldn’t find a trustworthy online retailer (I wouldn’t purchase from Amazon, personally.) but you can order by phone from my salon (milk + honey: 512-236-1115). You can also check your local salons.

If any of you try any of the products, let me know what you think of them!

Hope you had a great weekend, XO.

Talia Handler Art + A Peek at My New Hair!

sketch

painting

bluestache

I met the sweetest, and most crazy talented artist, on Instagram. Her name is Talia Handler (@taliahandlerart), and she went to Parsons School of Design, and dreams of being a childrens wear designer. She draws and paints the most beautiful portraits using photos straight from your IG feed if you want.

I followed her for a couple days, and knew quickly that I wanted her to paint Camryn, so I e-mailed her and let her choose any photo from my Instagram. About a week later, the first sketch popped up in my feed, and then the painting, followed by a close up. I was dying; they turned out even better than I had ever imagined. The painting is so detailed, and rich in color, and blows my mind everytime I look at it. I was so happy that she chose a fun picture of Camryn, and know that it will forever be a conversation starter when people see it. I’m calling it “The blue mustache lady”. :-)

My husband has already claimed it for his office, and it’s currently being matted and framed. I guess I’ll just have to order another picture for myself. :-)

If you are interested in commissioning a piece from Talia or just want to see more of her awesome work, check our her Instagram feed, and her website. You can also e-mail her at trhandle@gmail.com. She’s super nice and will gladly answer any questions you might have. She also offers multiple size options for portraits, and will paint your animals or anything else you might like. These portraits would be an amazing gift for family, and friends, brides, and especially for a new mom. I’m pretty sure my sister-in-law is getting one of these of my teeny tiny nephew when he arrives.

Go say hi, and oohh and ahhh over her art! She also posts pictures of her clothing designs, which look awesome, and I can’t wait for her to launch her line.

In other news…

I had my hair done yesterday! I started posting sneaky pics on IG, but wanted to save the “big reveal” for all of you today. I went to milk + honey salon (and spa) and spent wayyyy too much time showing my stylist pictures and trying to explain what I wanted. Yes, I’m that girl…you know, the one who says stupid things like “I want my hair ombre, but I want it to look really natural”, or “I want to cut my hair, and change things up, but I don’t want to lose any length”…helpful, right? She had me pull up my “hairspiration” pics, and pretty much knew exactly what to do from there. My hair is crazy THICK and LONG, and it turns into a giant knot if you even look at it the wrong way, so she had her work cut out for her.

She started by back combing my hair (I knew right then she was going to have a hell of a time getting those knots out), and then applied 3 different colors/bleaches (I dunno what they were, sorry!) to the ends. I looked like a tin foiled lion for awhile. After she rinsed the bleach, she had to brush out all the knots…she had to call in reinforcement, and it still took awhile, and did not feel awesome on my scalp. I joked that it was a form of torture. ;-) I do not think that madness happens to most people, so don’t be scared to try this, it’s just my hair.

Because I was so nervous, and scared of anything too dramatic, she blended the color really well and kept most of the color to the very ends. I’m in love with how it turned out. IN LOVE.

I made my hubs take pics for me last night, and it was dark outside already, so crappy, indoor (flash) pics are just what you’re gonna have to live with. Ready?!

ombreback

Pretty close to my inspiration picture, right?! …and here’s a picture without flash. ombrenoflash

The lighting was creating a red-ish shadow (you can see it on my face and arms too) so my hair looks slightly more auburn/brassy in this pic than it does in real life. She faded the color in so well that you can hardly notice how blonde the ends are, but if I hold them up to my roots it’s a HUGE difference in color. I’ll post more pictures on IG for you all soon. I’ll also update with a photo of our framed blue mustache lady soon.

I hope you’re all having a great week!

Rodan + Fields Review

RodanFieldsLogo A few months ago, I was sent free samples of the Rodan + Fields product lines to play with, and I wanted to review the 4 regimens with all of you.

Rodan + Fields was created by the Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields, the dermatologists who created Proactiv. Their approach to skincare is basic; “The right ingredient, the right formulations, and used in the right order.” I tested four regimens, with a one week break between each.

My skin is combination, but tends to lean more towards dry. I get occasional hormonal breakouts, and suffer from dark pigmentation from the sun and natural freckling. My biggest concerns with my skin are aging, dryness (dry patches that are visible after applying makeup), and dark spots. I try to wash my face twice daily, and exfoliate twice a week. I also enjoy using face masks at least once a week, typically for exfoliation and brightening dull skin, or for acne concerns. I am a firm believer in investing in quality skincare, because it’s the only face you’re ever getting.

I will review each regimen individually. As always, my opinions are my own.

“The biggest culprit in aging skin is sun exposure, and your drinking, smoking, stress and sleep habits play a role, too. Skipping sunscreen, imbibing too often, coping ineffectively with stress and sleeping on your side or stomach can all exacerbate and create wrinkled, adult acne and texture changes.Dr. Kathy Field, Ladies’ Home Journal

Redefine Regimen #1: REDEFINE (Anti-Age)

Claims: REDEFINE claims to smooth, visibly firm, minimize, and defend your skin from harmful rays.

I wanted to start with this regimen because it was by far my favorite. The facial cleanser is unique, and is applied like a cream cleanser but left for approximately 2 minutes (or until dry) and then rinsed. It feels similar to a clay mask, and left my skin feeling clean and tightened. I followed the cleansing mask with the pore minimizing toner, and then the day or night creams. I really appreciated the SPF 30 in the daily moisturizer, which prevents any of my dark spots from becoming darker from sun exposure.

It typically takes weeks (sometimes months) before you will see significant changes in your skin when using a new product, and as my samples only lasted 2 weeks, I hadn’t had high hopes of seeing anything major. To my surprise, I noticed my skin felt plumper, and less dull in appearance. I hadn’t realized how dehydrated my skin had been, and was really amazed at the dewy, radiant complexion that I had after just 2 weeks. I did not see any difference in fine lines, but I did feel as though my makeup was applying more evenly and wasn’t settling into any of the lines around my eyes or looking patchy or dry. I was genuinely sad when I ran out of this sample.

This is a skincare line that I will absolutely recommend to friends and family. I love that Rodan + Fields offers a 60 day money back guarantee, and has reps all over the country who can help you discover the products that will work best for your skin type and needs.

I just want to reiterate that I am NOT being compensated for this review and I am NOT a Rodan + Fields sales rep. I really just loved the REDEFINE regimen, and wanted to share my thoughts on this product.

Paula Bronleewe is my Rodan + Fields representative, and will gladly answer any questions you may have, and guide you in determining which regimen is best suited for you. I linked back to all the products mentioned in this review if you are interested in reading about the ingredients, pricing, or additional products (masks, macro exfoliator, etc). I’ll be reviewing the other 3 regimens, SOOTHE, REVERSE, and UNBLEMISH, over the next few weeks.
