My Weekend

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Me and my little family spent the weekend at home, relaxing, after getting rained in. I guess summer here in Texas is finally coming to an end.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw this picture of Camryn with all her pumpkins.

photo Well here’s where all those pumpkins ended up.

photo (2) Do you see my peeping toms?!

I saw this picture on Pinterest, and I think the little mice would be the perfect addition to my steps on Halloween.

Camryn and I were feeling festive on Friday and spent the afternoon doing Halloween crafts. I found the wooden masks from Michaels for a dollar, and we already owned the paints, so our project was only $1. Hours of entertainment = a good $1 investment.

IMG_2780 On Saturday we baked sugar cookies and decorated them with a LOT of sprinkles.

The rest of my sunday was spent organizing my closet, which you guys will see pictures of later this week.

Stay tuned for tomorrows post on my favorite beauty products under $10.

Sick Day // 99 Questions Tag

My husband shared his cold with me, so I spent most of yesterday laying on the couch watching The Little Mermaid with Camryn. Thank you Mom for that wonderful gift, it has been a lifesaver!

While I’m relaxing, drinking my tea, and trying to fight this cold, I thought I’d let you guys know a little more about me. I saw this 99 Questions tag going around on YouTube, and I thought it’d be fun to do, just minus the video part….because I look ratchet, and nobody wants to see that!

Here we go.

1:Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?

Open. My husband & I have separate walk-in closets off our master bath, and we rarely close the doors. Although, both our closets are crazy messy since our vacation, so maybe we should close the doors. :-\

2:Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel?

Uhhh DUH! Doesn’t everyone? No? They’re just so cute, and little, and useful.

3:Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?

Out. I’m a mover at night, and I hate feeling trapped.

4:Have you ever stolen a street sign before?

No. That’s illegal.

5:Do you like to use post-it notes?

I try to avoid them, even though they tempt me with their fun neon colored selves. I try to use the notepad on my phone, or a real notepad that I can keep running notes on.

6:Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?

I cut coupons and give them to my sister, who unlike me, is organized enough to remember to take them to the store….and use them.

7:Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of a bees?

Bees. Bears have giant teeth and claws. No thank you.

8:Do you have freckles?

I am a giant freckle.

9:Do you always smile for pictures?

Yep, like a cheeser.

10:What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who leave the toilet seat/cover up. I’m not talking about the seat you sit on, I mean the lid. I hate seeing inside toilets, its gross. I think I’m the minority of people who close the lid after every use though. Side note: If you’re ever at my house, I’ll always know where you’ve gone potty, because the seat will be up. I know, I’m weird.

11:Do you ever count your steps when you walk?

OCD much? No, I don’t.

12:Have you ever peed in the woods?

On camping trips, sure, but I don’t make a habit of it.

13:What about pooped in the woods?

No. I would rather die.

14:Do you ever dance even if theres no music playing?

My daughter and I have dance parties almost every morning, and it’s almost never to music. Sometimes I sing “Let’s go to the beach…each…Lets go get away…” like I’m Nicki Minaj. Man my kid is lucky to have such a cool Mom!

15:Do you chew your pens and pencils?

No.

16:How many people have you slept with this week?

Well, since I’m married, this could be a dangerous question….Just Kidding! One, of course.

King. My husbands a bed hog, so if there were a larger size, I would buy it!

18:What is your Song of the week?

Lorde – Royals

19:Is it okay for guys to wear pink?

Why not?

20:Do you still watch cartoons?

Do I watch anything but cartoons? That’d be a better question. I have a 2 year old, so yes, I watch a few cartoons.

21:Whats your least favorite movie?

American Psycho. The hubs loves it, but I just get really bored.

22:Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had some?

Wouldn’t this be a good problem to have. Hmmmm…probably somewhere really hard to get to, like on top of a mountain or something.

23:What do you drink with dinner?

My husband makes me drink water, because otherwise I never would. That should be my New Years resolution: Drink more water!

24:What do you dip a chicken nugget in?

Ranch, always.

25:What is your favorite food?

I’m obsessed with Pain Au chocolat since we visited France. I could eat them all day, everyday.

Sure was! I was a brownie, and a girl scout. Those were the days!

29:Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine?

No, and the general public thanks me for it!

Pain au chocolat

36:What is your usual bedtime?

Around 11

Cat in the Hat (because my name is Sam)

Yes and No. I started getting odd anxieties after having my daughter (fear of losing her, fear that something would happen to me and she’d be without a mom, I dunno…) so occasionally I get nervous with heights….and flying, driving, and anything else dangerous. Basically I’m just saying I’m a mom. HA!

47:Do you sing in the car?

Poorly.

48:Do you sing in the shower?

Mantles

I found a new mirror last week, and decided to give my mantle a new look using it. I painted the mirror gold (it was an awful crackling silver color before) and added some of my favorite art from MadeByGirl.com and Leigh Viner’s shop on Etsy. I wanted to stick to black & gold and add in a few pops of color with coffee table books, flowers from my garden, and art. Here’s what I came up with:

photo

What do you think? I have a few other pieces from both artists that I’ll feature in my Home Tour soon. Check out their shops if you’re interested, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Here are some other inspiring mantles:

Fall Loves

I tried wearing a sweater yesterday in hopes that the beautiful 60 degree morning weather would last all day, but ended up a sweaty mess by lunch when the Austin sun warmed up into the 80′s. Fail. I just can’t help but be drawn into the allure of boots, sweaters, darker polishes, and everything pumpkin flavored and scented. Here are a few of the items I’m already loving this fall.

Fall Must Haves

I also tried a new nail polish this weekend from Revlon, Gray Suede, and I am IN LOVE! I’m on Day 3 without chipping, and the color is a beautiful nude beige. (you may have caught a glimpse of it in my Summer-to-Fall photos yesterday)

What have you all been loving lately?

Summer to Fall – 1 Dress, 5 Outfits

Hello!

I know, I know, it’s Monday….again…but I’ve got a little something fun to perk you up!

With all this beautiful fall weather upon us, I thought it might be fun to show you a few outfit ideas for warming up a summer staple. I used a simple white dress, which could easily be replaced for the notorious little-black-dress that we all own and love. I added layers to create a cooler-weather appropriate look. If you don’t live in a warmer climate, like I do, you could also add some tights, cute frilly socks peaking out of your boots, a knit hat, and of course a jacket.

Bar Styling

Every couple of months I play a little game that I like to call “musical furniture”, where I switch out side tables, art, lamps, etc, and try to breathe new life into a space without spending a lot (or any) money. My husband hates doesn’t love this game as much as I do. He becomes my heavy lifter and handy man, and is asked “what do you think of this?” about a thousand times. So last weekend, against his pleading, I decided that our dining room needed a facelift. The room has been in a sad state, with a half finished gallery wall, and I just wasn’t feeling inspired by the direction I had initially taken with it. Well what better way to make a room more inviting than adding some booze! Am I right?

I did some research on Pinterest and found these little beauties:

Via

I love all the black & gold, and the sophisticated, glamorous look.

Via

This bar has a much more laid back, fun, summertime feel. The striped paper straws really add a punch of whimsy. Via

Wow! This last bar makes a statement, especially with the funky Jonathan Adler “Uppers” jar, and the pink and chevron chair. This bar screams “I’m a party animal!”

There seems to be an easily replicated trend with these bars:

-Touches of black & gold

-Trays to group the liquors

-Flowers

-Cookbooks

Ok, I have all of the above, so I’m sold. I want a bar. I NEED a bar. Musical Furniture time.

I moved a media cabinet from our upstairs living room/playroom, and styled it into this:

bar What do you think? I added plenty of black & gold, I used a fun tray to group my liquor and glasses, added some striped paper straws, cookbooks, and flowers.

This perfect fall & winter drink should make my husband happy that we have a bar during the cooler months too. :-)

Spiked Apple Cider:

Ingredients
1/4 gallon apple cider
1/2 cup dark rum
1/2 cup cinnamon schnapps
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cut into large chunks
1/2 lemon, juiced
Directions
Mix together the cider, rum, and schnapps in a large pitcher. Add the apples to a small bowl and toss them with the lemon juice. Thread the diced apples onto skewers. Pour the spiked cider into glasses filled with ice, then garnish with an apple skewer and serve.

Enjoy!

Dreams

Hi, I’m Samantha.

I’m a wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, and now the author of this little blog.

I started falling in love with the blog-world around the time that I was pregnant with my, now two year old, daughter. I became so obsessed that I would catch myself nursing her in one arm and using the other arm to check-in with my favorite bloggers on my iPad. (More on my blogger idols soon.) So much of what I read felt familiar, as if I were chatting with an old friend. I checked in with them all daily, for fun DIY projects, new recipes, and just to see what was happening in their lives. After a few months I realized that I wanted a blog of my own. I wanted the community of friends that you gain, and I wanted to share all my awesome tips & tricks with other bloggers, moms, wives, and people just like me, but I wasn’t brave enough until now. I wasn’t willing to be vulnerable, and put myself in a position where I could possibly fail, but I’m ready now and I’m hoping that you will embrace me and join me on this journey.

So what should we talk about?

Tips on decorating with a toddler? Boy do I know a thing or two about that! Interior decorating is one of my biggest passions. Party planning without breaking the bank? Every mom should know how, and I would love to share some of my secrets. Traveling with your munchkins? Been there, done that. We just returned from France…on a 10 hour flight….with our two year old. Quick, easy, and healthy recipes that the whole family can enjoy? They exist, lets try some out together. Beauty products? Aint nobody got time for products that just don’t work. Let me tell you about the hits, and misses, that i’ve tried. We can’t forget about the best thing of all…Being a MOM! I’m talking fashion, activities, kid friendly DIY projects, products you can and can’t live without if you’re a mom, and everything baby/toddler/kid related.

If you’re like me, you have tips & tricks of your own, and I would love to hear about them! Leave me comments. Ask me questions. Just say “hi!’ and reassure me I’m not just a crazy lady having a conversation with her computer. ;-)

Hope you’re ready for what I’ve got in store! XO Samantha
