Tres Chic Boutique // Put A Bow On It!

bow ring

There are a few things I love most in life, and one of those is bow jewelry. Maybe it’s the chic, Kate Spade-esque look of a bow, or my undeniable love of presents that has me swooning. I have necklaces, bracelets, earrings (that I wear daily and my sister hates because they are beginning to tarnish *insert sobbing here*) and now I have the most gorgeous little midi-ring thanks to my friends at Tres Chic Boutique! If you’ve never owned a midi ring, let me go ahead and answer the 2 questions I know you’re wondering about – 1. Yes, they’re comfortable. 2. No, they will not fall off your finger. If you have a toddler aged child, it will fit them like a standard ring fits you. My 3 year old thinks this ring is hers, despite my insisting it’s actually mine, because “…but Mom, it fits MY finger better!” :-)

Don’t be fooled by all my bow talk; Bows are not the only jewelry I’m swooning over from Tres Chic Boutique…I’d also take this, this, this, and these (which I find hilarious) in a hot minute!! They offer such great prices, especially on large statement necklaces.

Now for a fun little giveaway where EVERYONE WINS!! You will win either a $5, $10, or $15 gift card to Tres Chic Boutique, and entering is easy as pie!

Mad for Plaid

Hooray for hump day!! I dunno about y’all but I am in need of a weekend already – this week has been bananas!! The nesting phase has absolutely kicked in and I spent the last two days putting up Christmas, finishing the nursery, packing the final hospital bag necessities, and moving around all the furniture in my house. No joke, my glass and marble bar even got moved (because the location and setup of my BAR totally matters right before bringing a newborn home)…my big ol’ preggo butt took it apart shelf by shelf and carried each (ridiculously heavy) piece to it’s new location. I’m sure my OB would be thrilled. Also finding new homes in my house: my wingback chairs, hallway table, stendig calendar, Harper’s standing nursery lamp, two giant mirrors (switched for shape), and my 9 foot christmas tree. Ba-BAM! Mama’s been busy. Someone who has NOT been busy, at all, lately is my baby. I have now had Non-Stress Tests done at both my weekly check-ups and will continue having them weekly until she arrives because she is a sloth. I think she’s just about out of room and can’t hardly move around anymore, but my doctor is closely monitoring her because of it.

In other news, I have a very special post for you today thanks to P+P’s newest Fashion contributor (and total babe), Emily! You might remember Em from this (super old!) post where we styled Cobalt Blue together. She is gorgeous, has such amazing taste, and the absolute sweetest personality to go with it. Go check out her blog, The Style Hunter if you’re not already following her. You can also find her on Instagram, where she posts tons of great OOTD’s.

There are very few things I can honestly say are staples in my wardrobe. I love to switch things up, make unexpected pairings and take advantage of the fact that trends change every season. Adding items to your wardrobe that will make an impact are my specialty. Currently these items include, but are not limited to…

1. Gigantic, slightly obnoxious sized baubles. Statement necklaces are a favorite.

2. A good leather top. I’ve currently got a short sleeved and a crop top version.

3. A crimson colored lip. Or really any bright lip.

4. A wool fedora.

5. FUR. Fur vest. Fur jacket. Fur lined hoodie. (faux fur of course!)

The only way these show stopping pieces can reach their full potential is by the great basics that become a canvas. For example, in this look, denim and a great flannel plaid with a neutral bootie make the other pieces shine.

If you find a pair of jeans that speak to you, hug every curve and make you think they were literally painted on, do your Superbowl touchdown dance in the fitting room. Make sure your booty looks good. Give yourself a pat on the back and then buy multiple pairs. My newest favorite has to be the Lookout High-Rise from J. Crew. They suck you in, and give every one I’ve seen try them on that hourglass figure. And who doesn’t want that?!

This fall, and every fall I think, plaid is always a staple. It just works. And this one, also from J. Crew (shocker), does not disappoint. For those of y’all that don’t know, I am a vPS (very personal stylist) for J. Crew, so basically I fall in LOVE with everything they do, the second it hits the floor. And let me tell you, this flannel sold out at my store in a matter of days. INSANE. But it’s that good.

What are some of your staples and some of your more trendy items for fall?!

Tres Bien {Collaboration}

stylish moms collab copy

My sweet friend Bethann, of BethAnimalPrint, reached out to me a few weeks ago and asked if I’d be interested in a “Stylish Moms” fashion collaboration. My obvious answer was “Duh!”

The shirt we chose to style was the “BIEN” screenprint scoopneck tee, which is sadly no longer available. You can find something similar (and under $8 – say what?!) here. The goal was to style an outfit that can take you from play dates with the littles to brunching with your girlfriends. No mini skirts that will flash the goods when you bend over to tie a tiny shoe, or heels that could break an ankle if you tried chasing after your rugrat.

I decided to stick with my usual “mom uniform” and paired my shirt with skinny jeans from H&M, brown leather bow belt, ballet flats, and my Michael Kors white boyfriend blazer (no longer available – similar & similar). You can recreate this entire look for under $90.

If you’re a mom, you understand the annoyance with shirts that droop open and flash your boobs to everyone when you bend down to pick up your little. Here’s the trick: use your sunglasses! I hook my sunnies to my shirt and push the end of the frame under the center of my bra. It keeps your shirt from hanging open if you lean forward. ;-) Is that a tip, or just a weird fact about me?! nojacket

Guest Post: Emily of The Style Hunter

We’re halfway through the week, loves! We will survive…at least that’s what I keep telling myself. It’s been one of those weeks for me. (You know, the ones that call for wine for breakfast…what? You don’t do that ever?)

I have Emily of The Style Hunter guest posting with me today, and we are showing you a few ways we’ve been styling Cobalt Blue into our wardrobes. First of all, I just have to tell you how much fun this adorable girl is; she’s pretty much the most fantastic person ever! I think Emily has great taste, so of course I follow her blog, but it’s her pictures that I love most. She’s always so happy, and looks carefree and like she’s having a blast! She never looks like she’s taking things too seriously….here are a few pictures to prove it. (Sorry Em, you’re just too cute to keep all to myself.)

Here’s a little about Emily, her darling blog, and how she styled cobalt blue:

~

Hi! I’m Emily, author of TheStyleHunter. I’m the girl that loves all things fashion. I am utterly obsessed with texture, pattern, shine and a bit too much. A girl that will wear red lipstick to a football game or layer on baubles for a trip to the grocery store. I love a good bargain and believe that the happiness in life could come from a walk around your favorite store.
Pops of color are what I’m about. Having everything else be basically neutral, with one bold color as the focal point of your look. In this case, the cobalt blue pants are clearly the star of the show. I found them at the LOFT and fell hopelessly in love. A good pair of pants is like a good car. Side note, ironically my car is blue. Hmmm, I may quite possibly see a pattern emerging. You need something reliable, that won’t stretch or break down (i.e. rip or get a hole unexpectedly) and one that will be a showstopper. Clearly these pants do the trick. Add a dash of leopard, since leopard is indeed a neutral and you are set. I will add leopard to any and every outfit I can, it might be an addiction, but one I wear proudly. Another thing I like to do when creating an outfit is to add something unexpected. I like mixing colors or patterns that some wouldn’t necessarily think of. These (on sale at Target) Sam & Libby pumps for $11 do the trick. A little bit festive, but not as dominant as the pants. That is the key to mixing. When mixing unexpected items, have one still be the dominant so that they don’t compete, but compliment in a new way.

You can shop my look here:

Now that you’ve fallen in love with her too, you can follow her on bloglovin’ here. :-)

Neither Emily nor I knew what the other person was doing for this “challenge”, which honestly made it that much more fun to see the final pictures. I styled my outfit for cold, and colder weather. Austin can’t make up it’s mind and decide if it’s still fall or full-on winter yet. Here’s a glimpse of what I wore…

VonBon Apparel

Happy Thursday! Happy because there’s only 1 more day until the weekend, but also because I have one of my favorite companies to share with you guys today, as well as a coupon code.

You’ve all heard me talk about Vonbon before, but my love affair with this company is so strong that they deserved their own post!

I’ve searched for scarves for my tiny lady since she was old enough to wear them, and could never find anything that was modern, well made, and in her size. I started buying adult scarves for her (not cheap), cutting them in half (what a waste), and sewing them into little infinity scarves (I’m terrible at sewing, even straight lines)…then I discovered Vonbon, and the addiction started.

Fotor1204170822

Jennifer and Kristen, two absolutely stunning sisters, created the Vonbon brand out of their desire to fulfill the need for quality, organic, and beautiful products suited for both mother and child. Tired of giving their expecting friends the traditional baby gifts, they began creating goods in neutral and sophisticated patterns that were easily transitioned from outfit to outfit, as well as being gender neutral. Vonbon uses only premium, organic fabrics, water based inks, and to ensure quality, they’re printed in small batches. These ladies are so incredibly sweet, and seriously care about their customers. Working with them has been so fun!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen Camryn rocking her Vonbon frequently. Here are a few of my favorite pictures of her wearing the neutral feather infinity cowl, neutral triangle infinity cowl, and the nude polka dot headband.

Fotor120417222

Fotor1204173152 Fotor1204171235

Are you in love yet?

The first thing most moms want to know is “How do they wash?’, and the answer is GREAT! See that red frosted cupcake? Y’all know it t went all over her scarf, but you’d never even know now. A gentle cycle later, and it was good as new. The products are so well made, and I really appreciate that the children’s infinity cowls come in a generous size, so I don’t have to worry about Camryn outgrowing them anytime soon. I can actually wrap them around her neck 3x’s if it’s extra cold outside and I want her neck to stay warm and have the ability to zip her jacket all the way up. The neutral patterns make mixing and matching headbands and infinity cowls so easy, but doesn’t give off that “matchy matchy” look. I know these will still be favorites of mine when we decide to have baby #2, and they’ll look just as adorable on a boy or girl.

Here are some other Vonbon items that I’m currently lusting over:

images

Gray Antler Blanket – This would be so great in a boys room, or in a girls room in need of a masculine touch to balance the pink. It’s the perfect size for tummy time, swaddling, or as a car seat blanket.

YouTube Beauty Guru’s

I love, love, love watching Youtube beauty guru videos. I might be an addict. I always watch a few at night, when I’m relaxing in the bath, or laying in bed before falling asleep. I’ve been watching them for so long that I feel like I know these people. I trust their opinions, and have bought countless products based off their reviews. Some of them are in the industry, and some of them are just makeup, skincare, fashion, and beauty product lovers like me. A bunch of you have been asking for my top 10 youtubers list, so here it is. (in no particular order)

1.|| Pixiwoo - Sam & Nic

These sisters are both professional makeup artists, and actually teach their own classes. When it comes to recreating a look, they are your girls! They are so incredibly talented, and they have the most fun personalities. They also have ADORABLE kids, which I’m a sucker for, as you know. :-)

2.|| Lisa Eldridge

Lisa is also a professional makeup artist (to the stars). “The list of celebrities she has made-up reads like a who’s who of the world’s most glamorous women including Kate Winslet, Katy Perry, Keira Knightley, Emma Watson, Eva Green, Cameron Diaz, Amanda Seyfried, Kate Moss, Helena Christensen, Cate Blanchet, Demi Moore and Salma Hayek.” So when Lisa says “this is in my pro kit”, I run and buy it! I love her fresh faced, flawless looks, and I think her videos are especially great for women over the age of 30 who are beginning to see signs of aging. Lisa is always aware of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, etc. and gives amazing tips on how to work with what you’ve got, and fix what you don’t like.

3.|| Zoella

Zoe is stunningly beautiful, and watching her is mesmerizing. Her videos are young, lighthearted, and easy. It’s like watching your favorite trash TV show. She gives good beauty reviews, and does a lot of “haul videos”, which I enjoy watching. It’s a nice way of seeing what’s new on the market, and getting a quick review without investing yourself. She’s definitely not who I look to for a tutorial, but more for a laugh, and reviews, and her voice is AMAZING.

4.|| Chloe Morello

Chloe started off modelling, and then began making youtube videos. She is very down to earth, and her videos never seem very scripted, or overly edited. She’s kind of like the beautiful girl next door, but with an awesome Australian accent. Chloe is the queen of contouring, and eyebrows. She’s extremely honest with her followers, and gives real advice that never seems biased or purchased by any makeup company.

5.|| Michelle Phan

Michelle is like the Queen Bee of the beauty gurus. She recently launched her own cosmetics line called “Em Cosmetics”. I love that she covers such a wide range of topics with her videos, and she is extremely skilled with makeup. Her videos are like mini movies, and I get most excited when I see a new video pop-up from her. She’s incredibly sweet, came from nothing, and built and amazing empire through Youtube. She’s also the brains behind the beauty social networking site and sampling program Ipsy. Her voice is so soothing, and her videos are just so enjoyable. Here’s some more about her…pretty inspirational!

6.|| FleurDeForce

Fleur is another youtuber I enjoy for easy, relaxing videos. She used to film a lot of tutorials, but has moved into more haul, tag, and review videos. She has the most adorable dogs, and watching her feels like watching an old friend. Fleur also films “lookbook” style videos which I really enjoy.

7.|| MissGlamorazzi

Ingrids videos are always fun to watch. She has one of the most adorable smiles, and seems like a real girly-girl. I have tried a number of products that she’s recommended and have always loved them, so I am highly trusting of her. She does a lot of outfit videos as well, and has great taste in clothes. She’s the total package.

8.|| Tanya Burr

I found Tanya through the Pixiwoo sisters. She is engaged to their little brother Jim, and used to be a model in their makeup tutorials. She’s absolutely gorgeous, and creates really incredible smokey-eye looks. What I love most about Tanya’s tutorials is her mix of high-end, and drugstore products. She’s also a professional makeup artist.

9.|| Essie Button

If I had to pick a favorite YouTuber, it might just be Estee (her nickname is Essie). There is something so effortlessly chic about this girl, and she’s someone who I always think “I could actually be her friend”. She’s so down to earth, and real, and just so damn cool. She met her boyfriend while living in Canada (he lived in the UK), and after a few months of talking, he flew to Canada, they went on a roadtrip across the US, and a few months later she packed up and moved to the UK to be with him. They travel a lot, and vlog their trips, and they just adopted the cutest new dog named Reggie. Her boyfriend Aslan jumps in her vlogs and tries to be a part of her youtube world….they’re just cute, and I love them! Ok, enough fangirl talk… She posts tutorials, product reviews, and hauls, and her videos are very laid back and she’s also super funny. I also really love her vlog channel.

10.|| MakeupByTiffanyD

My sister started following Tiffany on Instagram a year ago, and told me I’d really like her because she’s a product junkie, fashion obsessed, but even better…a home decor enthusiast! Uhh…Yeah, she’s my long lost soul sister. :-) Sometimes her videos are long and chatty, and she takes awhile to get to the point, but I really trust her opinion and rely on her for reviews, tips and tricks, and beautiful tutorials. She has the most insane eyelashes you will ever see, and for the first few videos of hers that I watched, I swore they were fake. She’s always up to date on the most current, newly released, and “hyped” products, so I look to her first for reviews.

I follow so many other YouTubers, but these are just a few of my favorites. Do you follow any youtubers? Who are your favorites?

Playdates + Pearls Facebook page hit 100 followers today (WOW, you guys are amazing!!!), so thank you all for reading, following, and supporting my blog. I am going to host a Facebook only giveaway in the coming days, so if you’re not already following, you still have time to join. Pantone Spring 2014 Colors Decoded

Quick Side Note: Piperlime is having a sitewide 40% sale today, so don’t miss out! Jessica Alba, Rachel Zoe, and Olivia Palermo, all very beautiful, and very well dressed ladies, share their favorite items so go check it out. My favorite pieces are:

This chunky Derek Lam sweater is gorgeous!!

This novelty “Oui” sweater is so fun, and I just can’t help but love it.

This sweater has a different play on elbow patches. Classic in color, and never out of style.

I am mad for plaid right now, and this looks so chic and comfortable.

Military inspired hooded vest.

This is the perfect layering bracelet, and the added texture gives it a more modern look.

The perfect silk blouse, which can easily be paired with any outfit. It’s on sale, plus you can take the additional 40% off. This one is a steal!!!

There are tons of other great pieces, so go take a peek. :-)

On to todays real post….

I shared this with the readers of CanYaHeelMe? last week, but I wanted to share it with y’all, just in case you missed it.

I’m decoding the Pantone Spring 2014 colors, and helping you find pieces will take you through fall, all the way into next summer. Pantone paired the typical pastel spring colors with brighter, bolder counterparts, which makes this a much more wearable palette. I’ve chosen timeless designers, and quality items that will last you for years to come, so add a few of these items to your christmas list!

Pantone Spring 2014 - Fashion Translation

Pantone Spring 2014 – Fashion Translation by playdatesandpearls Links At End of Post, or click photo to shop this board.

Placid Blue: A neutral to most colors, Placid blue can act as a background color, or has the ability to shine on it’s own. I love pairing light blue with light pink, peach, and navy. Because this color is so muted, it can easily be worn in larger scales, such as a maxi dress.

Violet Tulip: This is the epitome of spring to me; a nostalgic color. This dreamy, and oh-so-florally purple pairs well with coppers, navy, and white. To avoid looking “bubblegum-esque”, wear this shade sparingly, as a statement necklace, or sandals.

Cayenne: Va-va-voom! Cayenne is on fire. This loud color plays best with other prints, such as florals, and animal prints. Wear this as a chic blazer, or even as skinny jeans.

Celosia Orange: This is not your Mama’s orange. This sophisticated, richer tone of orange, would pair beautifully with Violet Tulip pieces “for a captivating vision, much like the setting summer sun.” -Leatrice Eiseman, Pantones Executive Director

Hemlock: This “neutral” color also plays well with almost anything! An “ornamental green”, which looks beautiful as military inspired jackets or pants, as well as mixed in with florals.

Dazzling Blue: My favorite of all the spring colors, dazzling blue is the “POP!” of color that makes all the other colors of this Pantone Spring Palette come to life. Dazzling blue compliments almost all skin-tones, and hair colors, and adds a sparkle to any outfit. I love pairing this color with lighter blues, like Placid blue, as well as turquoises, pale pinks, golds and silvers, and crisp whites.

Freesia: Tropical, florally, and another nostalgic spring color. When we think of this shade of yellow, we all think of the classic rain boots. Stick to the classics, or pair this with any of the other spring colors for an updated look.

Radiant Orchid: The bolder counterpart to violet tulip, this deeper shade of purple looks especially pretty when paired with blues and pinks.

Paloma: The quintessential neutral, which can easily be the backdrop to any color, adds a touch of class. For a richer, tone-on-tone look, pair varying shades of gray together. For glamour, pair with gold.

Sand: A great color for combining with other colors, but also beautiful on it’s own. Sand gives a feeling of warmth. This beachy color can be used to your advantage to create longer, leaner legs, with nude heels.

Many of these colors are great year round, so don’t be afraid to start experimenting with them this fall and winter. I have been loving chunky sweaters in Sand and Dazzling Blue especially. Of course, the easiest way to play with all of these colors is with shoes, so embrace your inner shoe-aholic, and get to shopping!

Summer to Fall – 1 Dress, 5 Outfits

Hello!

I know, I know, it’s Monday….again…but I’ve got a little something fun to perk you up!

With all this beautiful fall weather upon us, I thought it might be fun to show you a few outfit ideas for warming up a summer staple. I used a simple white dress, which could easily be replaced for the notorious little-black-dress that we all own and love. I added layers to create a cooler-weather appropriate look. If you don’t live in a warmer climate, like I do, you could also add some tights, cute frilly socks peaking out of your boots, a knit hat, and of course a jacket.
